Use the right kind of range number
An advertised range number describes a stated test-cycle or version context. A dashboard estimate is the vehicle's current prediction. A measured trip is an observation under particular conditions. These three numbers can differ without any one of them being a universal description of the car. Your dealer worksheet should label each clearly and retain the source and date.
Avoid converting one test cycle into another using an unexplained fixed percentage. Also avoid claiming that every used 610-labelled car will cover a particular distance on the highway. Establish the exact version and original-market record first, then gather battery and route evidence. The useful buyer question is whether the candidate supports the intended schedule with a practical reserve.
Define a demanding normal day
Ask the customer for regular distance, longest routine shift, typical speeds, passenger load and expected climate-control use. Identify when the car will be parked near usable charging equipment. A daily average can hide the day that causes operational difficulty, so include the busy pattern rather than sizing the purchase around only the easiest journey.
For a fleet, separate routes that return to a depot from vehicles that work across a large area. Include time spent travelling to a charger and waiting for access when building the operational plan. Do not assume that all parked time is available for charging. A route description with two or three concrete scenarios is more useful than a general promise that the car is suitable for commercial use.
Use an explicit energy worksheet
For planning, available driving energy divided by observed consumption gives a conditional distance estimate. Use compatible units and include the reserve separately. As an illustration only, 40 kWh allocated to a driving window at 16 kWh per 100 km gives 250 km; at 20 kWh per 100 km it gives 200 km. These inputs are invented examples for explaining the calculation, not E-QM5 test results or a claim about a particular battery.
Replace the example inputs with credible measurements for the candidate and route. Do not treat nominal battery capacity as fully available driving energy. The battery assessment and the intended charge window both matter. Keep the completed worksheet with its assumptions so that a different route, season or vehicle can be recalculated rather than quietly inheriting the original answer.
Record a repeatable observation
Where practical, ask the inspection provider to document a safe, representative drive with starting and ending charge, trip distance, conditions and any warnings. Note whether the vehicle was preconditioned and whether traffic or weather made the run unusual. Avoid extrapolating a very short low-speed test into an all-day driving guarantee.
If the dealer can assess a first delivered vehicle on a local route, keep that observation as market-specific experience. It can improve the next buying brief, but it still does not certify every car in a future shipment. Compare similar versions and battery evidence. A change in road conditions or driving schedule should prompt a new assessment rather than a dispute over an old brochure figure.
Budget time as well as distance
A vehicle may meet the distance requirement yet be inconvenient if replenishing energy conflicts with the customer's operating hours. Confirm the charging solution, expected parking opportunity and what happens when the usual charger is unavailable. Plan a realistic fallback, with the local operator's conditions checked rather than assumed.

For a customer who stops overnight near reliable equipment, the same car may be practical where it would be unsuitable for a continuous shift. Treat these as different purchase cases even if daily distance appears similar.
Translate the result into a buying decision
Compare the measured and documented evidence with the required route and an agreed reserve. If the result is marginal, investigate whether a different version, a charging opportunity or a different operating schedule solves the problem. Do not conceal a weak margin by presenting the most favourable scenario as the expected daily outcome.
