Identify the battery being assessed

Start by connecting the test report to the vehicle and installed pack. Request the VIN, inspection date, odometer and battery identification where accessible to a qualified technician. Record whether the pack is original or has been replaced, and obtain supporting records for a claimed replacement. A report for a previously installed battery does not describe the one that will be shipped.

Ownership belongs in this initial check. If the candidate comes from a swap arrangement, clarify whether the installed pack is part of the sale and whether it can change before delivery. Do not spend time comparing health readings on a battery that is excluded from the offered price or cannot be linked to the final transaction.

Read a health figure in context

State of health is an estimate whose meaning depends on the measurement system and method. Ask who produced the figure, what tool was used and what the report actually measures. A screenshot without a date, VIN or test description should remain seller-supplied information. Do not advertise it as an independent capacity certificate simply because it contains a percentage.

Ask a qualified EV inspection provider to explain the limitations of the available data. Where capacity testing is proposed, agree the procedure, conditions and acceptance criteria before paying for the test. There is no universal percentage in this guide that automatically approves or rejects every E-QM5. Your decision should account for the version, intended use, report reliability and the cost of resolving uncertain findings.

Inspect the pack and surrounding structure

Include the underside, protective covers, mounting areas and visible cooling components in the professional inspection scope. Request clear photographs of impact marks, corrosion, fluid traces and previous repairs. A clean upper body does not rule out damage underneath. Record what was accessible and what could not be inspected without dismantling so that an incomplete view is not described as a complete pack examination.

High-voltage disassembly is specialist work. Do not ask an unqualified seller to open the pack or bypass safety systems to produce a video. If visible damage or diagnostic findings need deeper investigation, pause the commercial decision and agree a qualified workshop assessment. The whole-vehicle checklist puts battery findings alongside structural, braking and chassis condition rather than treating them as an isolated score.

Observe charging, with conditions recorded

A useful charging record includes the starting and ending state of charge, elapsed time, ambient conditions where available, charger identification and any interruptions or warning messages. Keep a continuous record or a clear sequence of time-stamped evidence. A brief connection video proves much less than a documented session in which the battery accepts energy and the vehicle remains free of relevant warnings.

Do not convert peak charger power into a promise of average charging speed. Temperature, state of charge and the equipment can affect a session. When a stop occurs, establish whether the source was the charger, the site supply or the vehicle before drawing a conclusion. Confirm destination suitability separately through the charging compatibility checks, since successful charging in China does not demonstrate every overseas installation.

Combine road-test and diagnostic evidence

Ask the inspector to report relevant stored and current faults, available temperature observations and any abnormal behaviour during the agreed road test. Note whether fault records were cleared before inspection and whether a follow-up scan was performed. A cleared warning light is not evidence that the underlying cause was repaired. Seek repair documentation where the history suggests a repeated concern.

Road-test observations should also record unusual power limitations, sudden display changes and warnings, without forcing the vehicle into unsafe conditions. A short test cannot reliably measure remaining lifetime or prove a full-charge driving range. It can identify reasons for additional investigation. Keep that distinction clear when preparing your own retail description or explaining the purchase to a fleet customer.

Turn findings into purchase conditions

Classify findings as acceptable with evidence, requiring further testing, requiring an agreed repair or preventing purchase. Set any required retest and identify who pays for it. Avoid a vague statement that the battery is “good” where important questions remain open. A dealer needs to know the practical consequence: whether the car can be approved, what cost is expected and which condition must be satisfied before final payment.

Save the report, images, charging record and final pack identity with the purchase file. If the vehicle is stored for a long period or the battery changes, decide which checks need repeating before loading.
