01

Separate build age, registration and use

Request production information, registration status and the actual recorded use of the vehicle. A car built earlier and registered later is a different description from one recently built. An unregistered label does not establish zero use, warranty entitlement or destination eligibility. The new-versus-used comparison keeps those fields separate. Ask the seller to correct an advert that collapses them into one reassuring date. For a dealer, precise status matters because the next customer needs to know what is being delivered, not simply that the vehicle was never sold under a familiar local retail arrangement.

02

Obtain the relevant storage chronology

Ask where the car was held, how long, how it was moved and which relevant maintenance or preparation records exist. Distinguish documented actions from seller recollection. A photograph taken today cannot reconstruct earlier exposure or periodic checks. Keep the information needed for the professional assessment without collecting unrelated private records. If the chronology is incomplete, state the limitation. Storage does not by itself prove a fault, but it can create questions that deserve examination before the buyer treats a low odometer as equivalent to a comprehensively checked recently delivered vehicle.

03

Assess the installed battery and current charging

Request a qualified review appropriate to the actual battery and circumstances. Keep identity, method, date and limitations with relevant physical and charging observations. A favourable displayed range or freshly replenished charge is not a complete condition assessment. Use the battery evidence guide for the broader questions. If the pack was replaced during preparation, reconcile the history separately. Do not infer remaining battery life from storage duration alone, and do not prescribe an improvised testing or charging procedure from sales advice. The purchasing task is to obtain a safe accountable result for the selected unit.

04

Review wear items and cabin functions

Ask the provider to assess tyres, relevant fluids and service items, normal controls, cabin systems and the applicable condition concerns. A vehicle can have little driving wear while still needing delivery preparation. The service planning record should identify the actual task and provider instructions rather than a universal storage package. Show the customer’s required comfort and software functions. Keep cosmetic cleaning distinct from mechanical or electrical work. A polished exterior should not close an unanswered cooling or control concern that would affect acceptance after the car arrives at the dealership.

05

Define completed PDI rather than an intended checklist

Request the dated scope and relevant results of the pre-delivery review tied to the vehicle. Ask which items remain unfinished and who will close them. A blank checklist, a workshop booking or a promise to inspect later is proposed work. The cooling acceptance review illustrates why specific observations need their own conditions and qualified findings. Retain important repeat checks after work. A completed general delivery inspection does not establish destination charging or the customer’s installed equipment, so keep those acceptance questions separate instead of treating the PDI stamp as comprehensive readiness for every use.

06

Price the complete saving and support route

Compare the stored offer with an acceptable alternative at the same delivery boundary. Add supported preparation, relevant delays and necessary equipment without double counting included items. Obtain the applicable written warranty or seller-support terms from the responsible provider; do not assume registration status starts or renews every benefit. The dealer quotation worksheet keeps the calculation transparent. If an important condition remains unknown, leave the uncertainty separate from a confirmed repair cost. The apparent new-stock discount is meaningful only after the resulting complete arrangement meets the buyer’s brief.

07

Recheck the accepted baseline before departure

Record identity, status, available storage history, final condition and supplied items at acceptance. If the vehicle stays stored or moves again before release, review material changes at the agreed stage. The departure reinspection guide covers that later comparison. Reassess a substituted car rather than applying the first unit’s preparation result to another similar listing. Choose stored stock where its established condition and complete value make sense; select a different candidate where essential history or delivery evidence cannot be resolved. The receiving customer should see what was checked and which support actually applies.

CHECKLIST

Keep the decision clear.

  • Build, registration and use recorded separately
  • Available storage chronology
  • Current battery and charging review
  • Completed selected-unit PDI
  • Full saving and final release baseline
QUESTIONS

Before you decide.

Does unregistered mean unused and fully supported?

No. Verify actual use, delivery condition and applicable written support separately.

Does long storage prove a battery fault?

Not by itself. Obtain the relevant qualified condition assessment and its limitations.
