01

Classify the finding before attaching a number

Separate a documented current condition, a confirmed repair requirement and a question that still needs investigation. Each has a different commercial consequence. A health estimate with no explained method belongs in the evidence gap column, not automatically in the repair allowance. The SOH report review addresses interpretation. This decision concerns what to do with its findings. Identify whether the buyer’s daily route remains supportable and whether a provider has specified a task. If the seller cannot connect the observation to the installed pack, request better evidence before bargaining over an apparently precise percentage.

02

Use the receiving buyer’s acceptance standard

Write the expected journey, charging opportunities and required working reserve. Compare that brief with the qualified report and relevant operating observations. Avoid a universal pass threshold that supposedly suits every E-QM5. Two customers can face different practical limits from the same documented condition. Ask the assessor which questions remain outside their work. A favourable short trip does not answer every seasonal or sustained-use requirement, while a lower estimate does not by itself prove that a particular buyer needs immediate replacement. The commercial decision needs a defined task rather than a percentage contest.

03

Obtain a complete supported work proposal

Where the provider identifies necessary work, request its scope, component identity, labour, further tests and completion evidence. Confirm who accepts responsibility for the result and what support applies to the work. A quoted replacement component alone can leave the vehicle’s actual repair cost unresolved. Check previous replacement records where relevant. Keep proposed work distinct from completed work and do not treat a new invoice as evidence of every hidden area’s condition. The buyer should understand which concern the proposal closes and which question would remain after paying for it.

04

Compare a transparent arithmetic example

Consider a purely illustrative comparison in one chosen currency: candidate A costs 10,000 before 800 of supported work; candidate B costs 10,900 and has no corresponding identified work. With every other scope equal, the difference is 100, not the 900 headline saving. These are invented worksheet inputs, not E-QM5 prices or repair quotes. Unknown investigation costs remain separate; they are not zero. The purchase cost boundary keeps transport and charging equipment aligned. Replace the inputs with dated actual offers before using the calculation to negotiate a vehicle or prepare a customer quote.

05

Do not buy unresolved condition through a discount

A reduction can compensate for defined accepted work or documented limitations. It cannot certify an unidentified pack, unclear battery ownership or a material unresolved safety concern. The broader battery condition review explains why physical and diagnostic evidence must remain separate. Pause where further assessment is necessary, and reject a route that cannot meet an essential acceptance condition. Avoid treating a large nominal saving as a fund that makes every future result acceptable. The seller’s willingness to reduce the amount is commercial information, not a qualified finding about the car.

06

Agree how acceptance changes after preparation

Identify the report, provider, work and repeat check needed before final approval. If preparation is completed after the original inspection, compare the final result with the accepted scope rather than relying on the earlier report. Keep any remaining limit readable to the receiving dealer. A replaced candidate needs its own evidence and cost sheet. New stock requires appropriate delivery checks too, but its status should not be mixed with a used-car health estimate when comparing condition. The parties need to know what must be established at each agreed transaction stage.

07

Keep the selection defensible to the next buyer

Preserve the finding, qualified interpretation, dated proposal, completed result and supported cost. Do not publish private diagnostic identifiers unnecessarily. For a dealer resale, explain the established condition and support without predicting future capacity or promising that a repaired car is equivalent to every new one. Use the inspection-led negotiation guide for the wider purchase discussion. The useful outcome is a car whose duty and complete amount make sense together, or a clear decision to seek another offer. A percentage without context should not supply the entire rationale.

CHECKLIST

Keep the decision clear.

  • Report linked to installed pack
  • Use requirement and assessment limits
  • Complete corrective-work scope
  • Equal quotation boundary
  • Final evidence before acceptance
QUESTIONS

Before you decide.

Should every lower SOH figure produce the same discount?

No. Method, present findings, required duty and supported work must be considered together.

Can a discount replace further investigation?

It cannot establish an essential condition that remains unresolved.
